SYDNEY OLYMPIC VELODROME

Homebush, Sydney, NSW
Entry in Open National Competition.

1993

The competition was sponsored by the Sydney 2000 Olympic Bid Committee to develop ideas for the IOC submission. The brief called for an open-air velodrome, with the option of enclosure. The design proposes a network of cables, supported by an upturned rim on one side and masts on the other, to support an optional panelled roof system. A great wall on the western side forms a datum, houses support facilities, defines entry and terminates the Olympic Park axis.
